  • Notes
    • fter schooling at Eton he was admitted at King’s College, Cambridge, in 1497. He died in January 1548/9 and was buried at South Ockendon. Jane, his widow, subsequently married Alexander St. John, as recorded on her tomb, which also states she had one son, George, who was aged 27 at the time of her decease. Jane died in 1557, aged 54 years and was buried at Thornton (Browne Willis in his history of Buckingham Hundred records the inscription around Jane’s slab and gives her age as 55, but the sketch included in his notes recording the monuments at Thornton reads ‘fuit qincquagint. quatr. anmos’, that is to say, 54 years.’ It is noticeable that there an also differences between these notes and the printed book for other monumental inscriptions at Thornton.)
